The benefits of magnesium and how I use it everyday

magnesium oil spray

Magnesium is a vital mineral to our bodies and to be honest, we don’t get enough. Even with a healthy diet, it can be difficult getting what we need from food alone. Magnesium effects more than 300 cells in our bodies and yet its not something you might think of when you think of supplements. Magnesium is essential for our well being. Starting with sleep, hormone regulation, leg cramps, ADD, migraines and a lot more.

Why are we deficient?

Many people are deficient in magnesium. Experts estimate anywhere from 80% -95% of the population are deficient.  Every cell in the body needs magnesium in some way or another. It is optimal for sleep and helps reduce stress. Magnesium improves joint, muscle, teeth and bone health. It can eliminate morning sickness, help with leg cramps, regulate blood pressure, aid in weight loss, helpful in pregnancy, anxiety and depression, hormonal imbalances , PMS, headaches and much more.

Due to most of our lifestyles, the magnesium that we do get in our day to day lives gets depleted. Did you know you lower your levels with things like lack of sleep, too much stress, alcohol, sugar consumption and caffeine? Sooo.. basically being a mom. ( and most humans) so finding a way to help supplement what we don’t get is a good thing.

A long time ago, this wasn’t so much an issue but now, even our natural resources are getting depleted too. Due to over farming and high pesticide use, magnesium’s levels in soil are lowering too. This combined with water filtration systems removing some of the naturally occurring magnesium in water, it makes deficiency of magnesium widespread.

Where can you get magnesium?

The ocean is still a great source of magnesium so if you live close to a beach, you are in luck! However that is not the case for most of us so finding a way to supplement and add magnesium to your diet is needed.

Magnesium supplements are absorbed by the digestive system and experts estimate that only 20-55% of internal magnesium from supplements are absorbed. Also, some people find it hard on their digestive track when taking magnesium through supplements.

You can also get some magnesium in the foods you eat. There is not a ton but some in spinach, almonds, avocado, dark chocolate, bananas and yogurt to name a few.

The best way to get magnesium?

Due to not being able to consume a supplement and receive full benefit and my lifestyle, I know that I am part of the high percentage of people who do not get enough magnesium. I have found that topical magnesium oil can be the easiest and most effective way to increase your magnesium levels. It absorbs rapidly since it bypasses the digestive system.

I use this everyday. I started adding magnesium spray to my daily routine when I was pregnant with my youngest and the first things I noticed were no more leg cramps and better sleep. Now, I use it for so much more.

TIP: I spray this on my kiddos feet too before bed ( just a couple sprays) to help them sleep better too.
